iPres 2023 tutorial

  • Good attendance, both in person and online
  • Not a lot of new feedback specific to the presented version 2.0
  • Had both to cover the general structure, but also the changes between 1 and 2 which made it sometimes difficult to follow.
  • METS was mentioned in different other presentations during the conference, so it continues to be an important standard in the community
  • StructLink issue was brought up, but very specific and not directly version 2 related.
  • Greetings from Tom (Habing) :-)

iPres 2024

  • Call for submissions expected towards the end of the year.
  • Might do a poster for METS 2?

METS 2 next steps

METS primer

  • We need a new primer specific for METS 2 that would be a rewrite of the current primer.
    • Does the overall structure still make sense?
    • Check through the board list who could work on this
  • Would have to include a section (or separate document) on the differences and how to get from one to the other. Also give some guidance on why you would choose which version.

METS profile schema

  • Value in continuing to do profiles
    • By removing the value lists in version 2 it is more important to document what actually is used
    • Useful for interchange, but also documenting
  • Registration process often doesn't happen
    • Lower the barrier, handle it similarly to the suggested value lists
    • Review process is a barrier, lowering that might encourage people to communicate/share?
    • Could have an easier submission procedure to add entries to a public list.
  • Testing against profiles?
    • Might postpone to a later stage
  • Priorities:
    • Adapt current schema to cover the changes of the METS 2 schema
    • Have a way to produce a readable version of the schema
