Procedures

    • Upon resignation of a Board member, and acceptance of the resignation, the METS Editorial Board Administrative Chair shall issue a call for applications from the METS community to fill the Board vacancy.
    • Included in the call shall be: * METS Editorial Board Statement * Board Membership Criteria and Expectations * Procedures for filling the vacancy * Timeline for filling the vacancy
    • The Call for filling of the Board vacancy shall be made to the METS listserv, the DLF Listserv, and other means of communication as appropriate to reach the METS community
    • Individual Board members may recruit potential candidates to apply for the position
    • Applications for membership to the Board shall go initially to the co-chairs of the METS Board who will then forward to the entire Board.
    • Applications should include a resume or curriculum vitae, a cover letter describing the applicant's interest in applying for the position, and two references.
    • Process for review of applications: * While all Board members are invited to review all the applications, responsibility for coordinating and completeing the evaluation process is given to a small group of Board members including the co-chairs. The small groupwill determine the specific process depending upon the application pool. and may conduct interviews by telephone or in person. Some rating of candidates vis a vis the criteria should be made for full Board review, and for documentation purposes. * Recommendations for final candidates will be brought to the full Board for consideration of the top candidates. Further discussion and decisions can be made via email or telephone conference call as well as face to face meetings.

Example Timeline for Board vacancy (2007-07-21):

  • Call for Applicants 6 weeks before DLF with deadline for applications 2 weeks after Fall DLF Forum 2006
  • Small group review of applications and recommendations made to full Board by end of calendar year 2006
  • Email and/or telephone discussion of candidates during month of January 2007 with decision made by February 1st, 2007.
  • Bringing new member on Board by scheduled conference call in February 2007
Approved 2007-07-21 during Board conference call.

Timeline for Board vacancies 2008:

  • Call for Applicants 6 weeks before DLF (no later than 17 March 2008) with deadline for applications 2 weeks after Spring DLF Forum 2008 (no later than 12 May 2008)
  • Small group review of applications and recommendations made to full Board no later than by end of May 2008
  • Email and/or telephone discussion of candidates no later than during month of June 2008 with decision made by June 30, 2008.
  • Bringing new member on Board by scheduled conference call in July 2008
