METS 2.0

If you wish to suggest schema changes that would not be backwards compatible, add them to the METS 2.0 change request page below. Note that currently there are no definite plans to implement a version 2.0 of METS, nor has any discussion of these changes been scheduled.

METS 2.0 - Change Requests

Process:

  • Proposals for changes to the METS schema should be made in writing to the METS list.
  • Proposals should also be described on the METS Wiki. See open Change Requests, above.
  • Proposals may come from individuals, METS interest groups, or other entities.
  • Proposals should be made at least 30 days in advance of Editorial Board Meetings for consideration at the next face to face Board meeting (usually held at DLF Spring and Fall Forums).
  • At the Editorial Board's discretion, proposals that are not submitted or finalized at least 30 days before a face to face Editorial Board Meeting may be discussed at the next Editorial Board meeting.
  • Final decisions on proposed changes should be made by a vote of the Editorial Board at a face to face meeting. This would mean a maximum of two revisions to the schema per year.
  • The Schema Editor shall have a first draft schema reflecting the changes agreed upon at the Board meeting not later than 30 days after the Board Meeting. The Schema Editor may create a draft revision in advance of the Board Meeting.
  • The final schema should be endorsed by the Board no later than 90 days after the Board Meeting.
