Docker Swarm test environment

During the research of container orchestration, Joep Verhoeven & Damien Kusters arranged a test environment in VMWare, provided by Fontys. In this test environment it is possible to test and play around with Docker Swarm settings in a controlled environment. This Wiki page will describe how to access this environment, but be mindful as this environment is for all Delta students.

How to gain access to the test environment

To gain access to the test environment you will need to connect to the SecLab VPN this is possible with the Cisco AnyConnect VPN which you can download for free here, or alternatively through the FHICT portal. When visting the page you will be asked your FHICT credentials login with username:i[your number] and password:[Your FHICT password]. Please note that you will also need these credentials to login on the VPN. After logging in you can download the VPN client.

In the VPN client you must connect to the SecLab network which has the following address: vpnseclab.fhict.nl. After you have successfully logged in you can go to the VMWare environment by visiting the following address: https://vcenter.fhict-int.nl . You will see a getting started page where you must press a big blue button that says LAUNCH VSPHERE CLIENT.

The next step is to login on VSphere. You can do this with the following credentials, Username: delta001, Password: delta001. Please keep in mind that this environment is for all Delta's!. In this environment you can see three VM's ready to use (but you can create, update and delete VM's). These VM's can be started by pressing the play button after selecting any VM. You can then interact with the VM by pressing either the launch web console or launch remote console. Note for the remote console you will need to install VMWare workstation Pro. You can download VMWare software from here. You will need to login and then buy the software, don't worry it's free 😁.

When connected to any VM via the Web or remote console you are able to login on the VM's with the following Username & Password: student. 🎉Congratulations you are now able to interact with all VM's, I hope you know Linux commands.

IMPORTANT

AFTER YOU FINISHED WORKING ON THE VM'S REMEMBER TO TURN THEM OFF, OR YOU WILL GET ANGRY FONTYS EMAILS!
