Using Peloton on Proform Carbon TL

Peloton on Proform Carbon TL Treadmill

NOTE: This next step has to be done only once. You will create, save, close out of QZ app, re-open app and then select this profile for your Peloton classes going forward.

  • Create Peloton “Treadmill Profile in QZ App”. Ensure your settings in your profile have included the following:
    • In General Options:
      • Ensure your weight and age are entered correctly
      • Check On “Use Miles Unit in UI” (If you prefer Imperial metrics)
      • Check On “Pause when App Starts”
    • In Peloton Options:
      • Ensure correct Username and Password are entered
      • Select Difficulty (lower, upper, or average)
      • Check On “Peloton Auto Sync Companion (Exp.)”
    • Treadmill Options:
      • Check on “Treadmill Speed Forcing”
      • Check On “Pause When App Starts”
        • Under Proform/Nordictrack Options:
          • Select Your Model Treadmill under “Specific Model” (“Proform Carbon TL PFTL59720”)
      • On Manual Device, select your Treadmill (Example: “I_TL”)
    • Under Experimental Features:
      • Check On “Virtual Device”, “Virtual Device Bluetooth”, “Zwift Force Resistance”, “Wahoo direct connect”, “iOS Peloton Workaround”, and “iOS Heart Caching”
      • Hit Back button twice to return to menu settings. Click on Profile. Create a name for your profile (Ex. “Peloton Treadmill”) and hit Save.
  • Restart QZ App.

To Participate in a Peloton class on your Carbon TL Treadmill:

  • Turn on treadmill. Hit Green Start Button. CAUTION: Treadmill will begin running at 1.0 mph.
    CAUTION: Do not stand on Treadmill pad at this time.
  • Use your iPhone or iPad to start QZ app. Ensure that your QZ app recognizes and connects to your treadmill.
  • Ensure Profile on QZ App is set on to the "Peloton Treadmill" profile you created previously in QZ for this treadmill.
  • Start QZ app on Apple Watch (or use other heart rate monitor). Ensure Walk or Run Protocol is used on watch QZ app.
  • Hit Start on QZ app on Watch. This will begin to capture HR.
  • Verify treadmill has been started and is running. When the same speed and incline settings that are currently set on your treadmill are displayed on the QZ app, select a random speed and inclines to verify that your app is reading the speed/incline changes that you made on your treadmill. If the changes are reflected, proceed to next step. NOTE: If you cannot control speeds using treadmill speed buttons, quit QZ app and start at step at "Participate in a Peloton class" on your Carbon TL treadmill.
  • Start your Peloton class on another device. NOTE: The Peloton class can run on any other device with a native Peloton app installed such as an AppleTV with Peloton app, an iPad with Peloton app, a ChromeCast with Peloton app Android tablet with Peloton app etc. I have not tried this with a Roku or FireTV, but it should work similarly.
  • Select the Peloton walking or running class that you want to take
  • When box pops up on your QZ app to ask to follow class resistance, press YES
  • When the 1:00 class introduction timer for your Peloton class approaches 0:03 seconds (before the start of class), press Start on the QZ app
  • Take your class. Your treadmill should be connected to the QZ app. Also, the QZ is connected to your Peloton App. Speed and incline should be automatically controlled based on your “Difficulty” Settings.
