Controlling Treadmill Incline Speed following Peloton Class

It works! You can now use QZ to control your Horizon, and some other treadmills. Here is a YouTube Video Clip of QZ controlling my Horizon 7.0 AT Treadmill speed and inclination on a Peloton walk/hiking class: https://youtu.be/mH2o31QvAxs

The instructions below and the video use an iPad with QZ floated over but you can do the same thing using QZ on one device and Peloton on another. (How to use Slide Over to float an app over another on iPad: https://support.apple.com/.../switch-an-app-window.../ipados)

Set up:

  1. Open QZ and go to Settings
  2. Settings/Tiles Options: turn on the 4 treadmill control settings (Speed, Inclination, Target Speed, Target Inclination)
  3. Settings/Peloton Options: make sure your Peloton credentials are correct. Turn on “Treadmill Speed Forcing” if you want QZ to change the speed as well as incline.
  4. Renumber/reorder the tiles if you wish. Make sure you press OK next to each setting you’ve changed.
  5. Quit QZ completely. (How to quit/close an iphone app: From the Home Screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle of the screen. Swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close. Swipe up on the app's preview to push it off the screen and close the app.)

Workout:

  1. Turn on Treadmill and start it moving at a slow speed.
  2. Open and start Peloton treadmill class then pause it during the intro.
  3. Open QZ and drag it on top of Peloton App (or open it on separate device). WAIT for QZ to find the treadmill, display the tiles, and in about a minute, display the treadmill’s current speed. When the Peloton class pop-up appears asking if you want to follow the class, click yes. (See troubleshooting below if any of those do not happen).
  4. Pause QZ immediately if it is not already paused.
  5. Start Peloton class. Turn on the display of Peloton’s countdown timer so you will know when intro is done and class is about to start). When timer reaches 0 Press START on QZ and begin the workout.
  6. When class is complete, press STOP on QZ to complete the recording and see the charts of your activity, receive an email with the workout metrics and trigger the export to Strava (if you are connected to Strava).

Troubleshooting:

  1. If you have trouble connecting QZ to the treadmill it may be because the treadmill’s bluetooth has connected to another tablet or phone nearby. It can only connect to one tablet or phone. So turn off the bluetooth on the device you aren’t using QZ on before trying to connect to the treadmill. On the Horizon, there is a blue light indicating its Bluetooth has connected. You may have to turn off the treadmill, turn off Bluetooth on the device you don’t want the treadmill to connect to, then turn on the treadmill, open QZ and wait for it to show tiles and then a minute later, show treadmill speed.
  2. Do not pause or stop the Horizon treadmill during a run or it will lose its connection to QZ, which will then stop capturing metrics. Instead, if you have to pause then run, press Pause on QZ, press Pause on Peloton app, set treadmill at lowest speed (.5 mph), step off and leave it running. When you return, press Start on QZ and press play on Peloton and your activities should continue right where you left off.
