Conferences

  • Attending conferences is an essential part of your professional development.
  • If there is a conference you would like to go to, please talk to me as early as possible.
  • Graduate students should think about attending at least one conference per year from their second year on. Postdocs should plan to attend 1-2 conferences during their time in the group as well. At each of these conferences (except local or low-cost conferences) you should be presenting your original research in a poster or oral presentation format.
  • If you are scheduled to give a presentation or poster at an upcoming conference, we should set aside time to go over what you plan to present. For oral presentations, we can use the group meeting ~2 weeks prior to the conference for you to practice.
  • I would appreciate seeing versions of posters before they are printed; how you communicate your work is a reflection of not just you, but the whole group.
  • When returning from a conference, especially an international one, you should update on the following Group Meeting on new topics and works you heard of that you find relevant.
