Hey there!

We're writing a review paper on open source technologies in the field of MRI. I just scanned this repo: first of all, thousand thanks for publishing this!

Two things I've noticed:

  1. without an open source license nobody is allowed to use, copy, modify, distribute […] the technical documentation of this project – currently all rights reserved, you could technically sue anyone who copies, redistributes […] the files
  • I suggest to make this project open source and propose CERN-OHL-W-2.0 as its license. it's a well-maintained hardware-specific open source license that seems to fit the scope and spirit of the project.
  1. the description/instructions from the website should be included in the repo. The website may disappear in the future, but here it's consistently versioned, potentially redundantly saved and when people fork the repo, the information always gets copied along, too

I also suggest to publish a release and include the export files in the release instead of mixing them with the source files

let me know if further details are needed :)

greetings
-moedn

Thanks @moedn! I think this is a good idea. There are a couple of reasons I'm not merging this immediately:

  1. This isn't the only repo with this issue. There is also:
  2. The primary decision-makers about these repos previously have been @kwendt3 and @eliceiri. Do either of you have an opinion on how best to proceed here? Would you like me to merge this PR, and do something similar to the other linked repos in (1) above?

sounds wonderful, thanks for the blazingly fast reply!

regarding 1. → had a quick look at the repos and I think CERN-OHL-W-2.0 would be a good match for them as well

best
-Martin
