Because of the shallow hole, I needed to cut my encoder clamp. I tried to bend the clamp using pliers, but to bend the clamp, the pliers needed to hold onto something, and I didn't want to break the PCB. So I decided to just cut the rotary clamp below the PCB. The downside is that now the rotary wobbles a little bit. But I can solder the clamp to the PCB if I want to.
Also, I need to cut the rotary pins, because of the same issue.
