Swings in the All-India Rainfall Index, even variations of only 10%, can cause severe flooding or drought, affecting Indian food production and security, and Gross Domestic Product. With current models that measure the Indian summer monsoon rainfall failing to account for new predictability sources that have emerged during the recent global warming, India’s agricultural economy will face dist There has been a recent development, the central-Pacific El Nino-Southern Oscillation, which is the strengthening of the North and South Pacific Highs and the accelerated deepening of the Asian Low that occurs during the boreal spring. Mitigation is possible with timely and accurate predictions of AIRI.
Using Dr. Bing Wang’s paper, “Rethinking Indian Monsoon Rainfall Prediction in the Context of Recent Global Warming” to build the fundamentals of my research, I plan to build a model that makes accurate predictions about future All-India rainfall.
I have maintained a blog, documenting my journey to building a better prediction model for the AIRI.
