Hello!

The rule about the Parry skill is:

Parry
Any one-handed weapon with the Defensive Quality can be used
with Melee (Parry). When using Melee (Parry), a weapon can be
used to Oppose an incoming attack without the normal –20 offhand
penalty (see page 161).

However when opposing with a shield, you can only roll with WS or Melee (Basic)

It should be noted that having Melee (Basic) skill isn't needed in order to access the Melee (Parry) skill.
So this feature shouldn't try to limit the "Defensive" quality to people having the Melee( Basic) skill.

Any weapon with "Defensive" can be used with Melee (Parry)

My intention here was to simply change your shield's group to melee parrying if that's what you're going to use. As far as I know, this isn't something the user would change often, and so it seems more ideal to me because it also defaults to whatever skill is tied to the group they selected. Thoughts?

Oh yes it's definitely easy to change, however it's more a case of ease of access for beginners.
I've reported this issue because I saw someone reporting what he thought was a bug on the french translation gitlab.
I, myself, had to ask for clarifications on the rules related to Parry because it's one of the most convoluted rule in wfrp 4e in my opinion.
So it's not a priority, however it could be a great help for aspiring GM and new players to have this rule automated for them. We could make the "Parry" skill the default skill in their roll popup if they have it and are rolling for a shield.
