## Abstract (200 words max.)
Data spaces are the new paradigm for accessing large sources of information and data providers federations.
The Gaia-X project is the European initiative that specifies all the aspects to consider when creating a new data space, what characteristics it should have, what regulations it must comply with, and how access to it should be carried out.
Within Gaia-X, distributed ledger technologies (DLT) are used as repositories for records and transactions. However, within the reference infrastructures, other elements will benefit from the secure execution and data governance provided by permissioned blockchains.
A clear example is the Clearing House proposed by Gaia-X and IDSA[2] , a place where permissions are resolved, access is granted, and contract compliance is verified before allowing interoperability between infrastructures.
