NASA asked Taibi Kahler, the father of Process Communication Model to support
them in choosing people that won't kill each other in space. I believe that
Tech world is the same. We often want to kill others, since we don't get why
they behave in a certain way or don't understand what we say to them. Let's
change that.

In this humorous ignite-style talk, we'll look at how XKCD comics can teach us
important lessons about our code, our colleagues, our customers, and even
ourselves.
In our pursuit of team excellence, we often forget the cornerstone of any
high-functioning team is the well-being and efficiency of its individual
members. It is important to remember, the admonition from in-flight safety
instructions, "put your mask on first before helping others." This lesson is
critical for us, where effectively managing our personal knowledge is akin to
securing our oxygen mask - essential for our survival and success.

Audience discussion and exercise to demonstrate two rounds of common production
assumptions. What factors matter when we want to estimate how long something
will take? And what if we stopped asking for estimates? What could we do
instead? A two-round exercise with "companies" of 5-6 people will create
something simple, under two sets of assumptions, and compare the results. Some
data on what we know about estimates vs. completion times, and how to apply
these principles at work (and home).
