The charm is currently providing misleading status as it updates its own lifecycle but does not update the status message after the fact.

Ideally, we should listen to collect metrics events and process with something similar to:

def _on_collect_metrics(self, event: CollectMetricsEvent):
        self.unit.status = self.lifecycle.status
