I'd be curious if you could try running git status on that same clone from within MinGW, not PowerShell.

I was able to reproduce the issue by having only the native Windows git on PATH, but having the MSYS2 git manually installed with pacman (not on PATH).

The two versions of git seem to handle newlines differently, so a clone produced by one looks dirty to the other. alr won't auto-install the MSYS2 git itself, but it will use it (in preference to the the native one, regardless of what's on PATH) if you install it manually.

Hi, sorry for the late reply, got carried away with stuff.

It does appear that MinGW's /usr/bin/git is seeing something different over than PowerShell's C:\Program Files\Git\cmd\git.exe. After committing MinGW's side to the local repository, alr publish (both 2.1.0-dev+3d280a5 and 2.0.2+9b80158) initial check succeeded, but failed shortly after, citing a path in MinGW.

Thanks for confirming. I have opened at alire-project/alire#1821.

alr doesn't in general support running under MinGW, Cygwin etc., so the subsequent failure is expected. The fact that alr goes out of its way to use a version of git that doesn't work is definitely a bug, though.
