Part 1: Self-Assessment Reflection

  1. Skills Analysis:

    • HTML
    • CSS
    • JavaScript (I need to continuosly practice as it can get a very complex)
    • Digital Marketing (From before I entered this course)
    • Graphic Designer (In a basic skill level - I know how to manuerver around graphic design tools)
    • Product Management
    • UI/UX design
  2. Interests and Values:

    • My key interest would be to learn software development to be able to become fully competent
    • My Interests are in building online bussinesses and platforms
    • Competency (Know your capabilities and being honest about what you know and do not)
    • Honour (Not lying)
    • Being a contrarian (Not just being a contrarian only but actually putting action behind that)
    • Taking positive risk (Being able to assess what is possible and not, while trying to merge the two)
    • Being Brave (Even though you could feel alone as a contrarian, you go out to explore)
    • Passion (Doing something well without cutting corners or not at all)
    • Friendship
    • Reliablity
    • Thoughtfulness
    • Family

Part 2: Career Exploration Insights

  1. Industries and Roles Explored:

    • Luno: Front End Software Engineer
    • Luno: Brand Designer
    • Huawei: Frontend developer - JS *
  2. Alignment with Personal Profile:

    • Previous experiences have I been are in working at news agencies and building own business | yourcater.co.za(no longer operational)
    • Experience is major(important) in all roles availble which I am exploring/ researching
    • React, Angular, Python ...etc. Would be added bonuses to understand and get competent knowledge in
    • Database, SQL knwoledge and Backend software development in general

Part 3: SMART Career Goals

  1. Short-term Goals (Next 1-2 years):

    • Get an internship or junior position for front development position at LUNO by January 2025
    • Pass Software Development Course at Codespace with a distinction (which should translate to knowledgeability)
    • Gain competent knowlegde in databases, building native mobile applications
    • Be able to create full stack websites from start to finish alone from what I learn at Codespace
  2. Long-term Goals (3-5 years and beyond):

    • Build out yourcater, which is an online business that serves catering and home based chefs
    • Also have aspiration of building out an agriculture platform which would help farmers save and extract more value from their produce by using the platform
    • I accuired Digital Marketing and Graphic design skills earlier in my career
    • These are the skills I believe if they were to be combined with JS,HTML,CSS would be beneficial

Part 4: Action Plan

  1. Steps to Achieve Short-term Goals:

    • Learning JavaScript, HTML, CSS enough to build out automated product/ service
    • Making time for practice to throughly achieve competency in JavaScript
    • Work on my time management skills to improve workflow and information processing
  2. Preparation for Long-term Goals:

    • Understanding and being able to use sub-languages of JS, HTML, CSS
    • Experience in building full stack websites and Native mobile apps
    • Ability to recruit other engineers to work on a collaborative project

Part 5: Reflection on Challenges and Opportunities

  1. Anticipated Challenges:

    • Identify potential obstacles or challenges in reaching your goals
    • Complex issues with code that my experience has not encountered
    • Access to funding for growth and scaling the product/ service
  2. Opportunities for Growth:

    • Building my product/ service as I progress within codespace
    • The friendships that I gain here could become colleagues co-founders and or partners in ventures
    • Getting close with the Codespace coaches and asking for guidance, insights and help
    • Making sure my portfolio speaks volumes while leaving no stone unturned
