Is the timeline realistic?
Who should sponsor this project and why?

Here are some essential questions you should ask before initiating a research project:

Research Questions and Objectives

  1. What is the research question or hypothesis that will be investigated?
  2. What are the primary objectives of the research project?
  3. Are there any specific research gaps or areas of uncertainty that this study aims to address?
  4. How will this research contribute to the existing body of knowledge in the field?

Research Design and Methodology

  1. What is the most suitable research design for this project (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods)?
  2. What are the key variables to be measured or explored, and how will they be operationalized?
  3. What data collection methods will be used (e.g., surveys, interviews, observations, secondary data analysis)?
  4. How will the sample be selected, and what are the potential biases or limitations of the sampling strategy?

Feasibility and Resources

  1. What is the timeline for the research project, including key milestones and deadlines?
  2. What resources (e.g., personnel, equipment, budget) are required to complete the project?
  3. Are there any potential logistical or methodological limitations that could impact the project?
  4. How will the research project be funded, and are there any potential conflicts of interest?

Ethics and Compliance

  1. Are there any potential ethical concerns or issues related to the research topic or methodology?
  2. What steps will be taken to ensure the confidentiality and anonymity of participants?
  3. Are there any necessary approvals or permissions required before data collection can begin?
  4. How will the research project comply with relevant laws and regulations (e.g., data protection, human subjects protection)?

Expected Outcomes and Impact

  1. What are the expected outcomes of the research project, and how will success be measured?
  2. How will the findings be disseminated, and what audiences or stakeholders are likely to be interested in the research?
  3. What potential impact could the research have on policy, practice, or future research in the field?
  4. Are there any potential limitations or criticisms of the research design or methodology that should be anticipated and addressed?

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  1. Are there other disciplines or stakeholders that should be involved in the research project?
  2. How will interdisciplinary collaboration be facilitated, and what are the potential benefits and challenges?
  3. Are there any potential conflicts or challenges related to working with different disciplines or stakeholders?

Risk Management

  1. What are the potential risks associated with the research project, and how can they be mitigated?
  2. Are there any potential biases or limitations that could impact the quality or validity of the findings?
  3. How will unexpected events or challenges be addressed, and what contingency plans are in place?

These questions can help ensure that your research project is well-planned, feasible, and likely to make a meaningful contribution to the field.

Not sure where this idea came from. I agree the concept, even the write up may have a place here, but it may be better suited as a supporting doc used to write the WG charter.
