This is a combination of PR 48 and 49 over at mempool
This was made semi-hastily, and some of the logging was just placed in there to help diagnose further issues with leaking threads if it hangs on shutdown.
You can use this as a guide to make your own PR or modify this one (I'll leave maintainer edits and pushes open)
I also have an open PR that adds Unix socket support for Electrum RPC. PR 50, if you'd like to add that as well.
