Stumped yet?

In WORD STAX (just a fun way to write \"stacks), players build stacks of cards, trying to find words that fit an increasing number of conditions. Each card in hand gives players 2 choices of conditions to add to the conditions on the WORD STAX in play. The more conditions, the more the STAX are worth. If they can think of a WORD or PHRASE that fits all the conditions, they can claim the STACK and all its points…for now! Players are aided by special cards which allow them to manipulate the STAX and claim them for their own!

OBJECTIVE

Players compete to claim WORD STAX by adding new conditions to existing STAX and finding words that meet all the conditions of a STACK. Shuffle the cards and deal 3 cards to each player. Players should keep the cards in their hands and not show them to their opponent. Deal 5 cards from the deck face-up on the table next to each other. For 3 or 4 players, deal 7. These are the initial WORD STAX. Rotate any Special Cards so that the condition side is on the bottom. Place the remaining deck within reach of the players. The player whose life involves the most stacking goes first. To play, a player must first choose a condition from a card in their hand. Cards in hands may be rotated and conditions on either side of a card may be used. Cards should be placed onto an existing stack such that the chosen condition covers the top half of the top card of the stack. You can only play a card if you can also claim the stack (see next).

(2) Claiming a stack

To claim a stack, state a word that fits all of the conditions on the stack, including the condition of the card being added to the stack. If the stack was previously claimed by your opponent, remove their cube from the stack and return it to them. Then place your cube on the stack. If your own cube was already on the stack, simply move it to the top card of the stack. A stack remains claimed until another player claims it or all the cards in the stack are removed.

(3) Ending a turn

At the end of a turn, take a card from the deck to add to your hand. Do NOT claim a stack this turn.

MOVE. Take an uncovered card from any stack and place it on any other stack. Unless it is a special card, you may also rotate the card before placing it. You claim only the stack to which you moved the card. If moving the last card of a stack, start a new stack with the next card from the deck (but do not claim it).

REMOVE. Take any card from any stack and shuffle it into the deck. You cannot rotate the cards.

SWITCH. Take any card from any stack and put it in your hand. Then place another card from your hand onto that same stack and claim it.

RESTRICTIONS ON PLAY

Some conditions are marked with a label.
