Inserting a Latex formula

Hello. I have a problem inserting Latex formulas. When I choose the Excalidraw: Insert LaTeX formula command the Enter a valid LaTeX expression window pops up. However inserting a formula and clicking the check mark button will insert a formula that is present in markdown view but not visible in Excalidraw drawing.

If I select the region where the formula was presumably pasted something with zero width gets selected. See below:

But I'am not able to change the size neither by holding Shift nor Option. Maybe I'am missing something trivial. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you
