Mate, is it possible to update tests/README to reflect the current status of testing in SM? E.g., it would be nice to know how can one run these tests locally, whether they are automatically run by some CI system etc.

That's a good idea. At the moment we only have internal documents, and the repository that contains the scripts is internal too.
