Broken newlines in messaging

I have just answerred a message message to a warmshower person like this:

Hi, this is my message.

this is a quote from the tourer 😁

this is my response to the question.

Notice the > this is a quote from the tourer 😁 which was message from the tourer which I wanted to answer. However, after posting, the newlines completely disappeared and ended up like this:

Hi, this is my message. > this is a quote from the tourer 😁 this is my response to the question.

Which completely looses sense :/
