I think it's easier to build authd for 24.10, but so far there are no plans to support it in non-LTS versions.

However, if you build the authd package yourself (can just add them to a personal PPA), then gnome-shell already in 24.10 will provide gdm support without further changes.

So, it's mostly about changing the debian/changelog, create a source file using dpkg-buildpackage -S and dput it to a PPA targetting oracular
