How can I back references the group defined in regex pattern? #6139

Assumed I have the pattern like this one: ([\w]+)<([\w]+)>, how can I back references two groups in that? It seems backslash with group number (\1 \2) doesn't work, nor do work with dollar sign ($1 $2).
