"Export" does nothing on Ubuntu

Describe the bug
If I try to export my documents as a pdf (or any other format), no file appears though I specified the export location in the settings. I status message is indicating that something is in progress, but then it goes away without an error message.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Open Typora
2. Open the folder with your .md files
3. Click on "export" and select "PDF"
4. Observe that a status message appears over the editor saying in German "Exportieren aktiv", meaning "Export is running" or something in English
5. Nothing happens, no file shows up even if I specify the folder explicitly in the settings.

Additional context
I observed this problem before I bought a license. I thought that it's due to the missing license, hence I bought one and entered the code but the problem remains.
I first installed typora via apt according to the websites instructions.
Then I tried out the snap installation. It's the same result.
