Meteor.Router.page() is null

The following will print "null":

Template.example.rendered = function() {
Meteor._debug(Meteor.Router.page());
}

Any suggestions on how to interpret that? Is that a normal thing for Meteor.Router.page() to do, and if so what does it mean?

I wouldn't expect it to be null, except maybe right at the beginning before the page is properly initialized.
