Maple Sans – sans-serif variant of Maple Mono #316

I've been pondering this for a while: What if Maple Mono has its own sans-serif variant? Just like Fira Code has Fira Sans, Geist Mono has Geist (Sans), and Roboto has Roboto Mono. Having "Maple Sans" would make font customization easier. No need to search for a separate sans-serif font for headings, contents, UI when you can use "Maple Sans" for everything. Of course it may not be all-purpose, but you get my idea. It seems no one has mentioned this yet, so I will get the ball rolling. If you settle on the idea, I will contribute as much as I can to see "Maple Sans" happen. |

Conclusion: I have no plan on sans-serif variant in the near future. I have made another font Maple UI, which merge modified There are many free sans-serif fonts available now, far outnumbering monospaced fonts in terms of quantity. Additionally, for me, creating a sans-serif font takes significantly more time than a monospaced font, as I need to redesign many characters and fine-tune their kerning. Therefore, I currently have no plans to create a sans-serif version. |

As you mentioned I kinda forgot that the characters need to be re-designed to look good in in variable-width context. I thought fine-tuning the kerning was enough. But either way it's indeed still a lot of work for you to create and maintain. Let's just keep this an open idea. I just saw someone also mentioned this idea in the discussions. At some point in the future we could join hands and make this happen. In the mean time, I think you should spend some time create a contribution guide for more helping hands, and also a place for donations if possible. I know Maple Mono is your hobby project, but its quality far exceeds a small project, even better than the paid ones. It deserves more attention thus I believe a contribution guide and some donations would help you a lot. |
