I really want to get more from the witness, and your randomiser seemed perfect. But, there was no mac version, and it would be a shame to have to buy a new machine for it, so it would be comforting to know that it's coming in the future.

Hi Thesnake66six! I want to make a Mac version, but I currently don't have access to a machine to develop on. I'm moving to college soon, so if they have a Mac there I can probably have a version made by the end of this year or early next year.

Thanks for responding! Hope that you get access to a Mac, and that you still have the spare time to work on it. Good luck with college!

Hi! Love this idea! How is college going, would you have time to create the mac version? I have an old macbook air that I can gift & send you, if you then promise to work on the mac version (no rush). Ping me if you're interested. The Witness is my favorite game of all time and I'd love to contribute to replayability.

@enjoythesun Thanks for the offer! I was actually going to try and rent a Mac from my school sometime this month or next month. If that works out then it shouldn't be too long before the Mac version is ready.

How is mac support going?

Kind of stalled since my plans changed and I had to go home from college for the summer. I would most likely a way to emulate a Mac on my Windows machine. Or try to find a Mac when I go back to college next month.

Looks like it's a port for iPad/iPhone. Does anyone know if Mac desktop can also play iPad/iPhone games?

Not really sure what you mean here, but as for the question, games on the App Store that aren’t listed as having a Mac version can’t be played (or even downloaded) on a Mac.

The witness's ipad/iphone port seems to work for mac as well (as in I checked the app store and it says it's compatible) if that's what you meant

For Macs that have Apple Silicon chips, and provided that the developer has not opted out to it, they can play games for iOS. Currently, the iOS version of The Witness is available for Apple Silicon Macs (I’ve actually played a little bit through this version).

I believe this version is the Mac-specific version, and not the iOS version.

I figured I should update this. Currently, in the process of creating the base for a Mac port using AppKit/Cocoa, the native tools to make Mac apps. Current target is macOS High Sierra (10.13) or later.

Any updates on how this is coming along?

I haven't heard anything about this in a while, no. Does anyone know of a way to do Mac development on a Windows machine? I suppose I could look into emulation or something if that was necessary.

Also it's worth noting that a new randomizer version is in the works, as people in the Witness discord have discovered new techniques that could allow modding textures and assets, making it possible to randomize more areas. It would likely be the case that the next version would end up being ported over to Mac rather than the current version.

Apple is notoriously closed about their development platform -- so you can't emulate a mac on a windows machine.
If you are serious about this, the best approach is honestly to requisition a VM from Azure/AWS/GCP and then remote into it and develop on there.
