Two customers including one Enterprise customer reported receiving thumbnails in .gif format from the Google Shopping API as opposed to the typical .webp and .jpeg formats usually seen. The .gif images are rendering as tiny blank images.

I haven't been able to reproduce the issue myself yet. The Search Inspect links show customer examples where all thumbnails are .gif format.
