Unable to use monitor interface with active flag

I use a laptop with an RTL8821CE chipset, so I have to use the kernel module from the wireless-next repo to have access to active RFMon mode. However, when the interface has the active flag, it refuses to be set up. Since owl doesn't work without an active RFMon interface set to up, I can't use it at all.
