Motivation

• Ever wondered, if you had the control for the virtual desktop setup, with the freedom to choose any Cloud provider, based on cost/compute power?
• Do you wanted to share your whole workspace with others for a single project, but find it difficult to share them out security concerns?
• Do you want full control over your data, and dont want to share the insights(particularly metrics) with Cloud Companies?

Solution

I propose providing Virtual Workspace As a Service. Users can plugin their own cloud/private cloud provider and make sure their data is decentralised.

Features

• Plugging your own Cloud Based Provider/Private Compute Source/Personal Computer, which can perform dirt-cheap compute at low costs.
• Users have the flexibility to use persistent storage for one provider, and use compute resource for another. Of course, the user has full control over optimising -
  • Low Latency Computation.
  • Dirt Cheap Computation, where latency is not an issue.
  • Storing data in AZ of their own choice.
• We provide the software stack to run their virtual desktops, with the Storage and Compute connected to the place they want.
• Since our software would maintain a docker container for each setup, user can quickly share the dockerfile to other users for quick reference, without hampering their security issues.
• Intelligent Metrics based Suggestions - Since we will be collecting metrics from users about their compute and latency based on different cloud based providers, we can provide intelligent suggestions for the same. Of course, the users have choice to share what metrics are they happy to share with the team for more data analysis.
• Monitoring stack includes Prometheus and Grafana Dashboards, so that user can visualize and see the latency/CPU/RAM/Cost Consumption and so on. The list is endless!
• Periodic Cron Jobs - If the user wants to use the compute for easily scheduling cron jobs, which are useful to perform periodic tasks, we can provide an isolated docker container for the same.
• Since the software does not have a hard requirement for a cloud based provider(you can setup this software locally on your machine :D), it is quite easy to run this software in a private intranet/datacenter for large companies.
