Janani Ravi is a computational biologist working on host-pathogen biology, protein sequence-structure-function relationships, and drug repurposing. She is interested in quantitative biology, likes to code and develop methods, and enjoys being in a collaborative environment addressing interesting biological questions. She also enjoys teaching statistical data analysis and visualization and R programming.

Janani's research interests lie in developing computational approaches to address the challenge of turning large-scale data into actionable insights in infectious diseases with a focus on three key areas:

  • Identifying genomic signatures, functions, and mechanisms relevant to host-pathogen interactions to enable understanding and guide diagnosis
  • Unraveling molecular mechanisms common between genetic and infectious diseases to guide targeted drug repurposing
  • Developing tools and resources for seamlessly relating sequence, structure, and function of genes/proteins in poorly characterized pathogens to enable and guide better prevention, diagnostic, and treatment regimen.

Janani's professional memberships include American Society of Microbiology, International Society for Computational Biology, American Thoracic Society, R-Ladies Global, and R-Ladies East Lansing, of which she is founder and organizer.
