At some point nautilus changed the behaviour that when you type a key it filters displayed files & folders, instead of selecting one. [There is also a setting to do this for all subfolders or only the current one, I chose the later]
With this extension I do have a delay of 1-2 secs, which caused me to prefer living without the backspace key. (As of today, without nautilus)
