Could you please provide a short introduction on how to install the script into Nautilus? Thanks! :)

Sure :)

  1. Make sure you have nautilus-python installed.
  2. Download the file and put it in here: .local/share/nautilus-python/extensions/
  3. Restart Nautilus

Hope it works for you.

Just a heads up, it seems that the package name is python-nautilus on ubuntu 16.04, not sure who decided that was a good idea

Brilliant! Thanks so much @riclc
There was no folder /nautilus-python/ so I simply made one.
Any idea how to make the delete key "Trash" for local folders and "Delete" for networked folders?
Currently Delete works for local files only. When i connect to a network share, there is no 'Trash' so the command is the only way to delete files. I'd like to remap that to
Any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks, bobrocks!
Well, as to make Delete key work one way or another depending on the situation, I think it is a bit more complicated. That would require knowing more about the internals of Nautlius. Anyway, what do you think about posting that suggestion on bugzilla.gnome.org ? I have read a lot of discussions on there. Sometimes others will agree with you and post solutions or ideas for working that out.

Dear Dev!

I can't tell you how much it means to some of us in the community having this backspace tab setup as default. It has improved my workflow and I highly appreciate your post. Is there a thread in bugzilla.gnome.org we can support to make this an officially available option in gnome? I am adding my support to the request: Bug 749250 - Support to customizable keyboard shortcuts.

Again, thank you for your time and this insanely useful shortcut!

Package is called nautilus-python on Solus.
Use sudo eopkg install nautilus-python for installation.
