The current QGIS website has quite many problems/challenges when it comes to the design, usability and user experience. I try to list some of the main issues here.
Problems
Overall outdated web design (too much white space, not efficient use of space overall, reading vs. scanning the text...)
Website is not appealing (scarce use of images, videos, color palette, popping illustrations...)
Hierarchy problems (not clear where to look first, the website doesn't really guide the eye much, everything seems mushy)
Section grouping problems (for example in the front page, first download/support (user actions), then news (content), then get started/involved (user actions), then news again (content)) -> confusing for the user and the point is lost
Changes in website UI when clicking different links -> makes user feel uneasy
Download, contribute... -features should pop more and be shown as a key element
After all, for most newcommers the website is the first thing they look for and see when making the decision of whether to use QGIS or not. Therefore the website should act as a solidifier to the QGIS brand and represent QGIS as a trustworthy and legit software. Now the website vibes "outdated", not really thought through and when the user wanders through the site, they easily get lost and it's hard to find what you are looking for.
Solutions
Analysis of the website content
Rearranging contents and creating hierarchy (I can do this via mockup)
Making a up-to-date graphic plan for the new QGIS website (I can do at least first versions and put them here)
Coding (I can do HTML and CSS, but with other languages I would need assistance from someone else)

Hi @anniinakovalainen thanks a lot for the feedback and the offer to help!
It is indeed something we started looking into. could you get in touch with me at [email protected] so I can show you what we'd like to get done?
