Should NetApp SDK files still be patched?

Hi I see in the files directory 2 .patch file:
NaElement.patch
NaServer.patch

I've found an (old discussion on the netapp forum) that say that those should be applied but in the documentation of the current module there's no reference to this patching. Should it still be done?
