I LOVE replacing renv() with devtools::install_dev_deps() !!! I start an RStudio session, clone the repo and do devtools::install_dev_deps() and everything (except lintr, stylr, ???) is in place. For example, I can run all the tests without needing to remember to install admiraldev, pharmaversesdtm.

I looked around in admiraldev to see where this is documented and I am not finding it.

Correct! No longer using renv - where did you find this blurb?
