OSPC is a project of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). We incubate open source models for predicting and simulating policy outcomes.
The Open Source Policy Center is built on the principle that better public policy analysis leads to better public policy. Since 2013, OSPC has incubated open source projects, models and web interface, for predicting the outcomes of public policy. We identify tools that have the potential to fundamentally improve policymaking, and we help tool builders create open source projects that are professional, user oriented, and welcoming to outside technical contributors.
Beyond incubation, we are committed to helping users by convening the open source community in Washington, D.C. and educating policymakers, modelers, and the public about open source policy analysis.
Please sign up for our newsletter to learn about useful models, events, and resources for public policy decisionmaking.
One of the main focuses for OSPC is the development of tax models.
With lead projects Tax-Data and Tax-Calculator, the constellation of models cover the areas of micro-simulation, data extrapolation, data weighting, statistical matching, behavior response.
The models are developed for the calculation of federal income & payroll taxes, simulation of fiscal policy reforms and for the economic projections.
These models have support the research work for scholars from inside and outside of AEI, other think tanks and governmental agencies.
Right now we have Tax-Data, Tax-Calculator, Behavior-Response, Tax-Brain (in maintenance) & Tax-Cruncher. We also have work in progress to develop new models, including an independent payroll tax model.
