Displaying Past Sponsorships on Sponsors Profile Page

👋 We've recently shipped an iteration on the Sponsors Profile Page (github.com/sponsors/ACCOUNT) that displays the past sponsorships an account has had. We had feedback from both maintainers and funders that this would help add legitimacy and recognition. Let us know what you think!

Also, currently one-time sponsorships are considered "active" for one month, then they move into "past", we'd love your thoughts on that, too!

What would be the timespan that you will keep in the past sponsorships? For example, anyone who had sponsored within last 1 to 12 months or will be covering all records since start of sponsorships?
Or will start counting past sponsorships after introducing this feature?
Will there be an option to opt out from being shown in past sponsorships?

It's all-time so any sponsorship that's happened since the beginning of Sponsors.

Sponsorships can be made private at the time of checkout but currently cannot retroactively be made private. If there is one you'd like to change you can reach out to Support who can help with that.

For me, it shows a person that never sponsored me, though. Even checked the logs to be sure. 🤔

Thanks for sharing @dohooo! For the benefit of @jlord my use case is I'd like to give sponsors access to certain content as long as they have sponsored at some point (even in the past). The idea is pay once, access forever.

If a user had a sponsor in the past but doesn't have one now, will their previous sponsor be visible on their homepage?

Only active sponsorships appear in the sponsors section of GitHub profiles.

Seems like the one time sponsors or past sponsors are only available on the organization level.

Would be cool to see it appear on the individual GitHub account level as well.

Just a feedback, otherwise great new initiative for giving one-time/past sponsors recognition as well in their efforts for supporting open source software 😃!

Hi there! I'm a dev on the Sponsors team. Past sponsorships should be showing for users as well. For example, your profile Sponsoring tab shows you have a past sponsorship:

For a maintainer, their past sponsors are shown on their Sponsors profile page:

This is great! It would be great if the private sponsors can be hidden from public view since the avatars of those private sponsors are boring.

Currently, all past sponsors will be displayed. It would be great if we can only display sponsors above a minimum amount. Otherwise it seems like a cheap advertisement and logo display if they only had one-time one dollar sponsorship.
