posting comments results in timeout

i have a strange issue, when writing a comment, the page does timeout .. basically adding a comment is impossible.
spambots however having no issues posting garbage, is there some way to debug such a thing?

I'm pretty sure that this is a WP or server bug and not related to the theme. Have you tried to move your project to a different server?
