This section is the one that needs most work. A lot of the emacs-facing material is out of date; and it all needs breaking into smaller sections. There's a lot missing & out of date from the section on project configuration in particular. Several attempts to update this have fallen by the wayside over the years and now it's really creating problems.

The section on catalogues also needs to be more comprehensive; I can do this if needed.

I'm going to triage this and create additional, focussed issues as need then assign them to others as much as I can ...
