German court decisions dataset: link recent versions more clearly #111
Comments
Judging from this commit openlegaldata/blog@efe4aa3 the project lost all its maintainer and it is effectively dead. Hi @malteos. Do you think it would be a nice idea to add a post-mortem write up for this initiative? I know it was a prototype, and not well known, but at least 67 people were impressed by it, and that experience is definitely worth sharing. I am not a journalist, but I can draft a few questions for it. Like, how did it all started? What were the major problems at start? What legal problems you've faced while obtaining and publishing these documents? What responses did you initiative got from CCC folks? How did you find the time and motivation to keep the project alive? Did anybody found that important enough to provide sustainable finding? What are your plans now? What would you recommend other people who would find this initiative useful enough to continue? Appreciate your work. Thanks. |
@jannikmi At the bottom of the blog post, there is already :
But it's probably better to also put a more prominent link on the main page. @abitrolly The project is not dead :D Even though technical development is on hold for now. We are focusing more on political lobbying (and that's very slow). I uploaded the latest dump just one week ago. You can find it here: https://static.openlegaldata.io/dumps/de/2022-10-18/ |
@malteos thanks for the heads up! 1.7 GB compressed is huge, but I would try to put that into GitHub static pages anyway. And it's probably possible to automatically update the web link with GitHub Action. |
So it is 7.4 GB plain ASCII JSONL. Not sure it can be made smaller. |
On the page for the German court decisions dataset , the "Download" section points to an outdated data version. Only at the end of the page there is a small remark "Update For more recent dumps, please refer to this link".
IMO Download section should just point to all available dumps
Thanks for releasing this data set.
