Build fails for IDE demo (OS/2) on Debian 12 host (bld/idedemo/src/os2/box.obj: not mentioned in any makefile)

Hi!

I'm trying to build OpenWatcom on a Debian 12 host. But it fails for building the IDE demo for OS/2 with the following messages:

Have it tried with the current master branch and also older release points (tags). It think to solve this issue isn't a big problem. But I'm a newbie with the build system from OW, so any help will be appreciated.

it looks like a problem with your path
/home/jk/.data/devel/OpenWatcom/src/bld/idedemo/src/os2
and compiled object path
/home/jk/Development/OpenWatcom/src/bld/idedemo/src/os2/box.obj
you have a strange configuration because both should be in same tree but they are not.
it looks like your OWROOT=/home/jk/.data/devel/OpenWatcom/src
but it could be a problem with subdir starting with '.' (dot).
try to use path without dot
also put here content of OWROOT environment variable.

Thanks for the quick answer!

The path /home/jk/Development is a symbolic link to /home/jk/.data/devel in my current configuration. There is/was a background why used this strange configuration in my home directory.

OWROOT has pointed to /home/jk/Development/OpenWatcom/src.

I will try to build OW in a directory without a dot and also without a link.

OW doesn't work with symbolic links.
You need to configure it for real path.
You can simply change OWROOT in configuration file.

But unfortunately when I want build OW with docs I get many missing image errors.

As example:

 DOSBox switched to max cycles, because of the setting: cycles=auto. If the game runs too fast try a fixed cycles amount in DOSBox's options.

I am sorry, it is bug.
I fixed it just now, update OW sources and try compile documentation ones more.

Thanks for the very quick FIX!

It has worked. But unfortunately I have to setup the Windows PATH environment variable to pointing to the WINE install directory from Window HTML Help Workshop and Windows Help Compiler manually with the WINE registry editor. Didn't work with the OW environment variables OWHHC and OWWIN95HC as described in the OW source tree docs/howto.txt on my system (Command not found error).

But I think, the reason was that my WINE installation points to $HOME/.wine (hidden directory), as you described.

This info in howto.txt maybe little outdated.
Take into account that WINE for build documentation is not supported and tested for long time.
You need to test if you can run help compiler from Linux by wine command before you do documentation build.
I need more details from log what the problem is
