Hi @gwemon ,
in discussion with @Osanna123 and having a look at the Guidance on Monitoring of Marine Litter in European Seas (e.g. MSFD Technical Subgroup on Marine Litter, 2023) we have agreed that it would be more correct to add the adjective "based" to some of the polymer types: Polyethylene based, polyester based and probably others according to the guidance.
How do you want to approach this?
Thanks,
Eugenia and @mattevi78

Please just submit the modifications you want to make term by term and indicate whether you prefer the term to be deprecated and a new term created or alternatively modify the existing term as I would consider this to be a minor changes to the existing concept. Happy to go with what you @mmolinajack + @Osanna123 + @mattevi78 prefer.

@mmolinajack having looked into more details at the report linked to this ticket and the table Table 7.5. Polymer types for data reporting I am now confused about what is being requested. Do you wnat us to align to what is presently in table 7.5? If this is the case then the new concept created earlier should have been "polycarbonate based" and not just "polycarbonate" with the definition you suggested which defines exactly what "polycarbonate" is but not what a "polycarbonate based" litter object is?

I am reproducing a reformatted version of table 7.5 below.
In an ideal word, is this what you would like H05 to include? Those exact labels and concepts? It is possible to do that using deprecation and creation of new terms, including if preferred the option to keep existing terms as separate entities (e.g. metal and glass under separate concepts) but I need to be certain I understand your exact "ideal" requirement.

Polymer type name Examples of materials
Acrylonitrile based Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), polyacrylonitrile (PAN)
Cellulose based Cellulose acetate (CA), cellulose nitrate (CN)
Polyamide based All types of polyamide (PA), such as various nylons
Polycarbonate based Polycarbonate (PC)
Polychlorinated polymers Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), chlorinated polyethylene, various chlorinated polymers
Polyester based Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), all other types of polyesters
Polyethylene based Includes high-density polyethylene (HDPE), low density polyethylene (LDPE), and copolymers with a major polyethylene (PE) fraction including ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA)
Polyfluorinated polymers Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)
Polymeth(ester)acrylate based All types of polymeth(ester)acrylate (PM(ester)A)
Polypropylene based Polypropylene (PP) and copolymers with a major PP fraction
Polystyrene based Polystyrene (PS) and copolymers with a major PS fraction
Polyurethane based All types of polyurethane (PUR)
Varnish/paint particles If different from PM(ester)A
Other plastics Polyether ether ketone (PEEK), polyoxymethylene (POM), polyvinyl acetate (PVA), polylactic acid (PLA), polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA)
Other semi-synthetic polymers Rayon
Rubbers, automotive Styrene butadiene rubber (SBR), tyre wear
Other rubbers Includes ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM), silicone, nitrile rubbers and natural rubbers
Other microlitter materials Metal, glass
