The app_setup.sh script doesn't generate very friendly/useful output when installation fails. We should:

  • capture failures in the script and not try to "keep going" when previous steps have failed
  • wrap installation execution in a function that sends output to a log
  • tell the user about the GitHub repo and how to report errors.
