KMS38 is needed to activate Windows Server versions which HWID is unable to activate. Yes, you can run HWID a 2nd time if your windows deactivates for any reason, the only times this should happen is when you've changed your hardware or you installed a windows edition that you haven't activated before. KMS38 is a weird one, HWID matches the official digital license system and Online KMS matches the official KMS Server activation, both systems are set up by Microsoft and is abused by MAS (Yes, Microsoft does actually provide businesses and such with KMS servers to activate the computers at their workplace or such, more reading on the official implementation here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/tn-archive/ee939272(v=technet.10)?redirectedfrom=MSDN#kms-overview). However KMS38 is not an officially supported way of activating Windows, essentially it makes Windows think it's activated with a KMS server and the activation will expire in the year 2038 instead of the usual 180 days of real KMS activation. |

KMS38 is also the only offline activation method in MAS, others require internet connection. |

I always create a local account and activate with the HWID method. Even if I format the PC and reinstall I still have Windows activated (I assume I can also reactivate via HWID again if I change hardware and it deactivates?).
So what's the reason someone would use KMS38 or any other method, since it has expiration date and HWID does not?
For KMS38, I read the following:
Is this the reason someone would choose KMS38 instead of HWID, and if yes, then what does that mean exactly?
For Online KMS I read it also activates Microsoft Office, so I assume someone would chose this one if he wants access to Office? TIA!
