I am aware that this is indeed possible through changing the config in the DSDATC.lmp file, but I feel that it would be more convenient if it was implemented into the game settings for certain people who want to do it without having to manually edit the lump.

I'm really just requesting because I have no clue how to actually edit the file, since I don't really have any knowledge about it. But if this IS actually possible, I think it would be very VERY convenient. (yes this really isnt a feature request but yeah)

You can download the DSDATC.lmp file linked in that page. Modify the values however youd like using a text editor, and then put it in the autoload folder (all-all i guess)

Now about editing in game settings, its more complicated.
You see, the automap colors that you can customize are selected from the pallette and stored in the config file. While in this case, the colors are not from the pallette (they are RGB values from DSDACR) and are stored in a separate lump.

Lets leave this suggestion open, but I dont want to think much about this for now.
