untracked files not visible

Hi,
I'm new to lazygit. I'm an old user of forgit.
Something has been puzzling me. I can't seem to see new untracked file in the files panel of lazygit, while new files definitely appear with git status and forgit::add.
Before I lodged some bug, I'm wondering what I could be doing wrong as it doesn't make any sense to me.
~/.config/lazygit/config.yml is empty and

lazygit -v
commit=, build date=, build source=homebrew, version=0.45.2, os=linux, arch=amd64, git version=2.47.0

those new files aren't obviously not in my gitignore

for some reason, my gitconfig had this, but neither git status neither forgit:add cared about this option which is suprising:

[status]
  showUntrackedFiles = no

I set this option to yes and lazygit is behaving as expected
