Brother's documentation says default password is initpass, but it appears this is no longer the case due to an undocumented change. To find the default password, do this:
Ensure the device is connected to your network
On the device LCD, tap the settings icon
Tap Network
Tap the icon for whichever connectivity the device uses (wired or wireless)
Tap TCP/IP
Note the device IP address in the IP address field
In a web browser, go to https://DeviceIPAddress (your browser may complain that the site is insecure. It's totally safe, so just bypass the warnings)
Once the web interface loads, click Lists/Reports
Click Print next to Network Configuration
The default web management password will be in the last 2 lines on the printout:
<Default Password>
Pwd:
You can now use that password in the web management Login field. Be sure to change it to something secure!
Also, the only password the Network Configuration report ever returns is the default, even after the password itself has been updated. Therefore, you don't have to worry about an unauthorized user getting into your printer config just by printing the password out.
