Hello,

I've been commissioned to prepare a VF update of Khand for Google Fonts. For it, I have converted the old UFO sources to a modern Glyphs source.

Since the instance setup has changed since its publication on Google Fonts, I'm wondering what is a good approach forward.

Since the weights of the two masters hasn't changed, only their names and numbers, instances don't match with the ones currently served by Google Fonts. Example: What used to be the Light weight is now called ExtraLight, with the current Light being heavier than before. This prohibits an update.

I'm wondering whether you would be happy to receive changes back as a PR that would revert to the original instance setup, or whether we should fork the repository and continue with the original weight setup while you retain yours?

Thank you

I've noted down the actual stem widths, measured on the m, compared between the old fonts currently live on Google Fonts and the updated fonts as defined here in the repo:

  Live Update
ExtraLight   50
Light 50 57
Regular 72 79
Medium 95
SemiBold 122 93
Bold 153 108
ExtraBold   128
Black   153

As you can see, no weight matches the previous fonts, which is unpublishable as an update.
Since the lightest and the boldest master are identical, it is apparent that the weights have simply been spread out further.
Are you okay with reverting back to the original weights as currently published on Google Fonts?

Bumping for visibility.
Can I revert to the instance setup as currently published on Google Fonts and PR back to you?
